Short description: Basic information including nutritional value of fruit, environmental factors influencing plant growth and development, methods of propagation and cultivation, fertilization, tree training and fruit storage. The attention will be paid on fruit cultivars and base production of the most important fruit species
Full description: Fruit production in Poland. The nutritional value of fruits. Environmental requirements of fruit plants and soil fatigue. The methods of propagation of fruit trees and berry plants. The establishing of the orchard and plantation. Methods of cultivation, fertilizing, pruning, training of trees and storage of fruit. Cultivars and base cultivation of the most important fruit species. Principles of integrated production of fruits. Apple scab and storage apple diseases. Diagnostic features more than a dozen cultivars of apple fruit

Learning outcomes: Knowledge Student receives the knowledge about the cultivation of fruit plants and their natural requirements. He knows the nutritional value of fruits and understands their important role in human nutrition. He can recognize the most important apple cultivars on the basis of their diagnostic features. Student has a necessary knowledge of ecological methods of fruit production and he can explain their important influence on environment protection Skills Student gets the knowledge that is necessary to run the modern fruit farm specializing in tree and berry fruit (strawberry, currant) production for fresh consumption, processing and storage purposes. He can perform 2 basic treatments of fruit tree propagation (grafting, budding). Social competences Student is aware of the responsibility for the production of high quality of dessert fruits and for the processing industry, the introduction of farming methods which take into account environmental protection.He appreciates the need for training.
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: grade obtained at classes (70%) + grade obtained at lectures (30%)
